Tawnell Hobbs

Tawnell D. Hobbs is a senior special writer on the investigations team at The Wall Street Journal. She was formerly the Journal’s national K-12 education reporter. Her coverage has included uncovering ransomware attacks, writing about widespread cheating in schools, delving into the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot, and in-depth reporting on mass shootings.

A native of Ohio, but a longtime Texan, Tawnell has been at the Journal since 2016. Before becoming a journalist, she served four years in the United States Air Force. She also served six years in the Texas Air National Guard. She was voted a Top 10 Military Veterans in Journalism of 2020, a national honor.
