Adelle Bish
Associate Professor, NCAT
I am currently a tenured Associate Professor of Human Resource Management in the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics at N.C. A&T State University. I have specialist expertise in talent management, performance, developing management capabilities, and HR practices. Prior to my academic career, I trained in Organizational Psychology and worked in a range of human resource management and leadership roles, with a particular focus on strategic HR, managing change, and talent management strategies and practices.
As an educator, I enjoy creating educational environments to engage learners in the study of HRM and how to use this to enhance their own career effectiveness.
I am also an active researcher in the field of HRM – with a keen interest in individual performance and “star” performers. My research projects consider how strategic HR practices can enhance individual performance, the impact of leadership, job design, and stress on employee outcomes, and I also investigate methods for the development of managers in the workplace. I collaborate with a range of industry stakeholders to address specific HR concerns in their organizations and have worked with colleagues from across the globe in order to bring evidence-based practices to the industry to support the ongoing development of the HR profession – and hopefully to improve the working lives of others in the process!
Current research projects include: investigating military veteran career transition challenges and appropriate HR responses, supporting academic and career pathways for student veterans attending HBCUs, and workplace incivility and abusive supervision in front-line service positions.
